Objectives
The overall objective of the BRITER-WATER project is to validate the performance of intensified bamboo based phytoremediation for food industry grey water applications. This will be achieved by meeting the following specific objectives:
- The system to be able to handle a throughput of 100 m3 of high load effluent per day at the end of the project.
- Installation of intensified bamboo phytoremediation system covering 2000m2 sited at Delifruits, a major soft drink manufacturer.
- The system will treat the effluent in order that any discharges from the system comply with existing regulations.
- Validation of system over a period of 2 years continuous operation with dairy and process industry effluent.
- Demonstration to the wider food and drink market through up to 27 trade associations and their members.
- This will provide a market replication pilot demonstrator of cleaning effluent discharges from food and drink factories in a cost-effective and eco-friendly manner.
